Web-Tourismus examined the distribution of the website visits (traffic) as
well as the distribution of on-line reservations (bookings) of the German
tourism industry in the course of the annual trendstudy "Web-Tourismus 2009".
The question, "when" the companies registered exceptionally high traffic and
exceptionally many bookings on their websites produced all in all interesting
results which strongly differ between the branches.
Concerning the website visits over all questioned touristic
companies in 2008, again January with 47.7% has been the strongest month,
followed by July (40.6%) and February (37.9%). Also in 2007 January,
February and July have been the months with the most website visits. Moreover a
total of two significant peaks in 2008 as well as in 2007 arose, once at the
beginning and once at the middle of the year. In 2008 April and November
represented the weakest months regarding the distribution of the website visits.
The chart below is a comparison of the months with an above-average rate of
website visits to the months with an above-average rate of bookings.
January and February, which were followed by July appeared as
strongest months regarding the rate of bookings (early bird rebate strategy)
observed over the whole branch in 2008. These statements about the whole branch
are strongly affected by the results of the organizers. Especially the good
results in the first seven months of the year, reflect the utilization of early
bird rebate strategies. The comparison of the distribution of the website visits
with the distribution of online-reservations again has to be compared by branch.

The months with the on an average slightest rate of bookings about
all branches have been April, October and November in 2008. According to the
statement from the previous year, the fourth quarter of the year
turns out as especially booking-weak, and the first quarter
appears as the booking-strongest.
Detailed analyses for each tourism branch can be found in the annual study.
